Ok. So I’ve taken the plunge today and joined a couple of new social networks, specifically twitter, linked-in, and facebook. So will this be a good or bad thing? I’ve got some thoughts:
How as a society are we supposed to go about getting anything done day-day when we are all chatting in so many ways? Now that I just burnt another 4 hours on setting up profiles, etc. will the investment pay off for business or should I look at this as solely a ’social’ experiment? I expect it is probably a little of both, similar to email and texting, as long as I can avoid the pitfalls of using these apps the same way I do with email, etc. I expect participating in social networks should become as natural as answering my phone/email/texts.
Second, what will the future hold? I’m guessing a lot of data miners are loving this new trend, and privacy advocates will one day have a field trip withe the nature and amount of personal info we are so willingly putting out there on the net for all to read/index, etc. How long until someone gets the bright idea to archive this for poserity and sells it back to us in 20 years for a ‘fee’.
Only time will tell. In the meantime check my pages out when you have a chance and drop me a comment or two:
