Comodo Anti-Virus Reviewed

Why would you want or need to buy Comodo Anti-virus?
Well I’ve been in the PC support business for over a decade now and have served thousands of residential and commercial clients, and I have to tell you, this recent entry into the computer security market is an interesting and strong choice for a personal antivirus solution for the home. For this review I decided to take a deeper look at the technology behind the program. I ran Comodo antivirus and the entire Comodo Internet Security Pro suite through its’ paces. Overall it stands up well when compared to other anti-virus programs out there. Can Comodo anti-virus survive when fighting the big boys on the market? I guess we’ll find out. Just don’t get sucked into using their remote support services – that’s why you have techs like me to help you locally. No remote service will ever replace an expert tech you can call directly.

A little background to get us started: Comodo, a leading Certificate Authority and worldwide provider of quality security solutions, recently released its antivirus solution as part of its’ Comodo Internet Security Pro (CISP) suite of protection software back in 2007. Initially I thought the program lacked any real performance as it was slow, heavy on resources, and was just not all that user-friendly. Sure, it had the same simple user interfaces and in some ways it showed some promise by finding some virii other programs did not. Well this application has now received a perfect 5 out of 5 star review by CNET’s Download.com. For the second consecutive time, Comodo Firewall Pro (part of the Comodo Internet Security Pro package) was also praised for being simple enough for beginners and very prestigious to expert users as well. Why does it get these kinds of reviews..well they came up with a ‘different’ way of detecting and killing viruses at the firewall level on the PC. Comodo launched a revolutionary new approach that goes by the name of A-VSMART, which is their abbreviation for AntiVirus, Spyware, Malware, Adware, Rootkit, Trojan prevention. A-VSMART provides front line defense, stopping destructive malware right at the firewall. This is a great place to start to prevent infection in the first place. I found the firewall to be much better than those built into any version of Windows. It was easy to use and configure and, unlike other firewalls on the market, didn’t completely mess up or prevent critical software from accessing the Internet.

But what if the firewall doesn’t stop the infection as usually happens when a user downloads a virus and executes it from inside a .zip file or some such, or the file is brought into the PC from a USB drive or other media. This is where the Comodo anti-virus product shines. Through testing of my own I can tell you it performs as well, though slightly slower than, other prominent programs on the market. It detected 98% of the viruses I tested while conducting PC repair over a week, and in some cases out-performed AVG, and definitely Norton.

As a newcomer Comodo Antivirus really impressived me. It’s rather fast, has a small footprint, does an expert job of overall protection, and at $49 per year for the entire suite, is an extremely well priced product. I would recommend buying it. Don’t take my word for it, take a look for yourself:
